The Shura Council discusses the report of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee a draft law to amend some provisions of Law No. 18 of 2017 regarding the penalties and alternative measures, accompanying Decree No. 96 of 2024. The draft law includes a number of amendments to the law in force, through which it aims to expand the application of alternative penalties, develop work in the legislative system related to its regulation, and keep pace with continuous changes by adding new penalties, The identification of one party specialized in implementing everything related to alternative sanctions and measures, and the identification of the bodies in which alternative penalties are implemented by a decision of the Minister of Interior. The Bahraini indicated that these bodies affirmed their support by agreeing to the draft law, considering the importance of the amendments that it contains in the interest of the convicted person with a negative punishment for freedom, and enhances its rehabilitation and integration into society. She pointed out that the draft law expands the application of penalties and alternative measures, as it has created new alternative penalties, which is a ban on the visit of specific websites, and depositing in one of the institutions specialized in psychological care or psychological care Health clinics, and attendance to the security authorities at specific times, explaining that the project includes the application of the Penal Code and alternative measures by defining it to one authority specialized in implementing everything related to penalties and alternative measures, which are the “Ministry of Interior”, as it is the authority concerned with the implementation of the original and alternative penalties, and the draft law also determines the entities in which the alternative penalties are implemented by a decision of the Minister of the Interior.
