Young people are the hope of nations to build a world of peace and understanding. The United Nations’s approval of the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence came at the initiative of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in confirmation of the importance of this principle in achieving stability and development. His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Communications and Communications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad International Center for peaceful coexistence, affirmed that this initiative embodies the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Great Country, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to spread the values of tolerance and promote global solidarity.
The approval of this international day reflects the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which seeks to spread the values of peaceful coexistence among peoples. This was confirmed by His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa during the annual Ramadan Ghobga organized by the King Hamad International Center for Peaceful Coexistence, in the presence of a number of happiness with ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of the United Nations agencies and religious, societal and media figures, where the event was a celebration of the United Nations’s approval of the Bahrain initiative in promoting global tolerance. And mutual respect, and reflects Bahrain’s commitment to cultural and religious pluralism. Throughout its history, the Kingdom has formed a role model in peaceful coexistence, as cultures and religions coexisted in harmony, which enhances its incubating environment for diversity. My personal experience during my studies at the Catholic Catholic Heart School, which included students from different religious and cultural backgrounds, embodies this authentic Bahraini spirit, as there was no discrimination on the basis of religion or race, but rather mutual respect and understanding was the basis.
To ensure the sustainability of these values, educational and societal institutions play a pivotal role in instilling the principles of constructive tolerance and dialogue, as education is the most important tool in the face of extremist thought, especially in light of the exploitation of technology to spread hatred. Therefore, the curricula should focus on critical thinking and enhance communication skills, to prepare generations capable of accepting the other and positive interaction with various cultures.
In my view, the youth are the real power that is able to spread the culture of coexistence, they are the most open to the world and affected by what is going on around them. When His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa spoke about their role as ambassadors of peace, I felt that this idea is not just an official vision, but a fact that can be achieved. When young people get the necessary tools and knowledge, they can deeply influence their societies and transfer the message of tolerance in creative and effective ways. I see that the programs launched by the King Hamad Center gives young people a platform for learning and interaction, which makes peaceful coexistence more than merely a theoretical concept, but rather a true lifestyle.
The transformation of peaceful coexistence from just an idea to a practical project led by young people is the real achievement, which makes Bahrain a role model globally. When young people are at the forefront of this change, coexistence becomes a life approach that achieves stability and prosperity based on dialogue and mutual respect. Such events and initiatives are not limited to celebration, but rather open the way for the development of more comprehensive policies that enhance understanding between religions and cultures, so that peaceful coexistence is a basic pillar for a brighter future.
