Doxycycline is usually used to treat this condition, but researchers have found that high doses that are traditionally described may not be necessary, according to what was published in the American Academy of Dermatology.

The researchers pointed out that reducing the dose can help patients avoid common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and rash, which makes the treatment more tolerated and effective.

In the context of the study, the researchers analyzed medical data for more than 240 patients treated from the lymphoma between 2009 and 2023.

The results of the study showed that 27% of patients received low doses, while 73% received high traditional doses. Interestingly, patients who took low doses 20 mg twice a day got the same therapeutic event compared to those who had doses above 100 mg twice daily, as there was no big difference in the degree of inflammation of the scalp, hair loss, hair density, or a decline in the hair line.

The study also showed that patients who took low doses were less vulnerable to side effects, as they were only 12% than health problems, compared to 23% of those who took high doses, in addition, the commitment to treatment was better in patients who took low doses, as only 16% stopped treatment due to problems in the digestive system, compared to 25% in the other group.

Researcher Carly Nidel of the New York University School of Medicine explained that the use of low doses of doxycycline not only reduces side effects, but also maintains the health of the intestine, as this antibiotic is known for its negative effect on beneficial bacteria in the digestive system, but low doses reduce this effect.

For her part, researcher Anna Brinx emphasized that these results may contribute to changing the doctors ’approach to the use of antibiotics, which helps reduce the spread of drug -resistant bacteria strains and protect patients from the risks caused by unnecessary use of high doses.
