Dr. Amr Al -Samdouni, Secretary General of the International Transport Division and Logistics in the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that the decision to establish the Taba port represents a qualitative shift in the development of the Sinai Peninsula and linking it to regional and international markets. Its strategic importance lies in its location on the Gulf of Aqaba, as it is easy to reach the markets in the Middle East and Asia.
Al -Smadouni added that the port contributes to supporting tourism in Egypt, especially with regard to marine tourism, in addition to strengthening the national security of Egypt, especially with regard to controlling the maritime borders.
Taba Port will be according to international specifications
Dr. Al -Smadouni in press statements today, that the portion of the port will be according to international specifications, and similar to the East Port Said Port, with the possibility of expanding thanks to the great desert back. The project also contributes to supporting trade and tourism and turning the Sinai into an economic focal point, in addition to that it carries an important political and strategic dimension in light of the Israeli attempts to create an alternative to the Suez Canal through the Ben Gurion Pass project.
President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi issued Republican Decree No. 35 of 2025 to allocate 52.5 acres in South Sinai for the General Authority of Red Sea Ports to establish Taba Bahri Port.
This project comes as part of a comprehensive development plan aimed at improving the infrastructure in the Sinai, which contributes to supporting commercial and economic movement.
The Secretary -General of the International Transport Division explained that the port contributes to facilitating the transportation of goods between Arab and Asian countries, as the Egyptian exporters will enable reaching new markets at lower costs, as it reduces dependence on traditional land roads that took longer to transport products.
He added that Taba Port comes within the Red Sea ports system, which includes the port of Suez, Hurghada, and Nuweiba, and this integration enhances the efficiency of ships and increases the competitiveness of Egyptian ports.
The Al -Arish railway project – Taba is part of the logistical linking plan between Red and Mediterranean Bahrain, which supports the movement of charging and internal transport and reduces dependence on traditional wild roads.
