6.7 billion pounds in investments to link 4 renewable energy projects within the Nuwafi program to the National Electricity Network

Dr. Rania Al -Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, said that four of the projects listed within the energy axis in the Nawafi program will be linked to the National Electricity Network next summer, within the framework of the state’s efforts to enhance the stability of the network and increase the clean electric energy capabilities.

Follow -up report No. 2 of the Nuvi program, which I launched Ministry of Planning and Economic Development And international cooperation, yesterday, Thursday, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, that within the framework of integration between public investments and international partnerships, investments were managed from the economic and social development plan for the current fiscal year at a value of 6.7 billion pounds for the project of the first urgent phase to support the national electricity network to accommodate the capabilities expected to be entered from renewable energies by the summer of 2025.

The report indicated that the first breaking stage projects are to be linked to the National Electricity Network (targeted to enter before the summer of 2025) with a total capacity of 3700 megawatts of solar energy, in addition to storage capabilities through batteries with a total capacity of 2840 megawatts. The importance of this project comes in strengthening the unified network to accommodate the capabilities expected to be entered from renewable energies, which contributes to solving the electricity cut crisis and securing the country’s electric energy needs.

It is scheduled to link the project of “Emia” station with a capacity of 1000 megawatts in southeast of Naban, the “Skatak” project with a capacity of 1000 megawatts in Naga Hammadi, and the “Masdar” station project with a capacity of 900 megawatts per oasis, at a cost of …, in addition to the tenth transformer station 500 kV in Sharkia Governorate.

The second follow -up report of the national platform of the “Noufi” program revealed the developments of the implementation of the energy axis projects within the program.

Dr. Rania Al -Mashat stressed that energy projects within the “Nawvi” program come in light of the directives of the political leadership to expand the green transformation projects, support the electricity and renewable energy sector, and achieve a qualitative boom in this vital sector, in order to implement the national integrated and sustainable energy strategy that aims to maximize the participation of renewable energy in the energy mix to reach 42% in 2030 and 60% by 2040, This is in partnership and cooperation with the private sector. She explained that interest in the energy sector is greatly reflected in the efforts to achieve economic development and increase investments in various fields.

The report pointed to the progress in implementing the energy axis projects within the “Noufi” program, which aims to add 10 gigawatts of renewable energy capabilities, with investments of about 10 billion dollars, and gradually disposal of 5 gigawatts of power generation with fossil fuel by 2028, while strengthening and developing the network infrastructure, and supporting the national network investments, with the aim of supporting the national strategy.

The report pointed out that through the joint efforts between the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is the main development partner in the energy axis, along with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the relevant national bodies, until the end of last year, energy purchase agreements between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company with a capacity of 4.2 gigawatts and private sector companies (such as Aqua Power Saudi Arabia, Source and Wanfente, your Norwegian Skakat, Emia Power, affiliated to the UAE company, Orascom, Hassan Allam for the facilities).

The efforts made in providing accessible funds for the private sector of $ 4 billion from development partners such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation, the African Development Bank, the British Finance Corporation, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the Japan International Cooperation Bank, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, the Green Climate Fund, the Deg Foundation of the German Construction Bank, and other partners.

Thermal stations were also stopped with capabilities of up to 1,200 megawatts out of 5,000 megawatts targeted within the program, as well as providing the necessary funds for financial closure for 7 renewable energy projects (wind/solar).
