The Alliance of the Greater Cairo Region Universities celebrated its establishment, as the first year of the alliance witnessed many joint initiatives and activities that targeted the linking of academies to the industry, and bridged the gap between study programs and the actual needs of the region within the framework of its economic activities that are distinguished, in addition to developing students ’capabilities, and contributing to community service.
The Alliance of Greater Cairo Universities reviews the harvest of its activities within a year of achievements
In March 2024, the Alliance of Greater Cairo Universities was established, and with it the activities that reflected the spirit of cooperation and integration between member universities, headed by Cairo University and the membership of universities: Ain Shams, Halawan, Benha and Al -Azhar, in addition to a number of private, technological and private universities.
This comes in implementation of the axes of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research launched by Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in March 2023, and within the framework of efforts to achieve actual integration between academic and research entities and industrial institutions, and to support the national economy and achieve sustainable development goals.
In a review of the most prominent coalition activities over the past year, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, President of Cairo University and President of the Greater Cairo Alliance Universities, stressed the keenness to integrate between the coalition universities, industrial institutions and government agencies within the framework of the presidential initiative -the coalition and development -where many cooperation protocols that entered into force, including, for example, cooperation with the Industries Development Authority represented by the government and the Siemens company represented by the partner Industrial, Cooperation Petroleum and other various industrial, productive and service institutions.
In the context of the coalition’s support for student activities and artistic creativity, the first bumper forum for music and choir was organized in the rehab of Ain Shams University, which brought together coalition universities students in a wonderful creative and artistic atmosphere, in the presence of a group of academic and artistic figures.
In order to enhance the rights of people with determination and integrate them into the academic community and the labor market, the Grand Celebration Hall at Cairo University witnessed the launch of the Tamkeen Initiative, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, Chairman of the Alliance members, and a number of prominent figures and civil society representatives.
The Alliance of Greater Cairo University Universities also implemented a series of joint and comprehensive development convoys within the framework of the presidential initiative for a new start to human building, as these caravans targeted the most needy areas, and included providing medical, educational, awareness, environmental, and social services in cooperation with the National Development Action Alliance and major community institutions such as Bahia Hospital, Lions Club Cairo, and the General Authority for Adult Education.
In order to enhance scientific research and academic integration, a number of scientific seminars and workshops were organized on activating the role of regional alliances, innovation in the higher education system, entrepreneurship, and the role of university alliances in supporting sustainable development, in addition to discussion seminars on developing academic partnerships of alliance with international institutions.
Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel -Sadiq, President of Cairo University and President of the Greater Cairo Universities ’Alliance, added that with the end of the first year, the coalition will continue its efforts towards enhancing the linking with the industrial sector and the active contribution to community development, as well as the commitment of the coalition members to implement more initiatives that reflect the vision of the Egyptian state to achieve sustainable development according to Egypt’s Vision 2030, and in cooperation with industrial institutions, government agencies and civil society organizations.
