I found study New, tattoos increase the risk of a person with skin cancer by 33% and 62%, according to a new Danish study published in BMC Health.

Tattoos may increase the risk of skin cancer

Studies have shown that the risk of cancer may rise with an increase in the size of the tattoo, as the researchers concluded that people with a tattoo exceeding the size of the hand are more likely to develop skin cancer by twice, while the risk of lymphoma cancer rises to approximately three times.

The scientists pointed out that the tattoo ink molecules, when injected into the skin, may move inside the body and accumulate in the lymph nodes, and researchers believe that the body may deal with these molecules as strange substances, which may lead to the continuous stimulation of the immune system.

In this context, Henrik Friedrixen, a professor of clinical medicine at the University of South Denmark, explained that the accumulation of ink particles in the lymph nodes may cause a continuous immune response, but the possible health effects of this matter are still completely clear.

On the other hand, a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2023 showed that 32% of Americans have a tattoo, while 22% of them carry more than one tattoo.

The study was based on an analysis of data from long -term searches on twins in Denmark, where about 2,400 twins were randomly chosen, in addition to 316 twins, one of whom was cancer.

According to the results of the study, people with a tattoo have a greater probability of skin cancer and lymphoma, and the tattoo, which exceeds the size of the hand, increased the risk of developing skin cancer by 2.4 times, while the risk of lymphoma increases 2.8 times, taking into account the age of the person and the date of obtaining tattoos.
