United Nations Secretary -General Antonio Guterres, Israel and Hamas, called for a commitment to the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of the coming days.

Guterres began his speech by emphasizing the importance of the next few days in maintaining stability in the region, noting that this stability is “fragile”.

Prior to the end of the first stage of the ceasefire, which started on January 19 and continues until today, Saturday, Guterres stressed the need to continue the agreement and implement the obligations of the parties, including the release of the hostages.

In a statement issued by the United Nations, Guterres stressed that “the coming days are extremely important,” calling on both parties to make every effort to avoid the collapse of this agreement.

Guterres also stated that he will participate in the Arab League Summit to discuss the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, at a time when Arab countries are studying a plan for the post -war period.

He pointed to the need to deal with Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as one entity under the management of a Palestinian government.

He stressed that Gaza should remain an integral part of “an independent, democratic and sovereign Palestinian state, without reducing its territory or forced transfer of its residents.”

He added that he will review the priorities during the Arab Summit on the fourth of March, including the preservation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement, and the need for a clear political framework for the reconstruction of Gaza and ensuring its sustainable stability.

This invitation comes amid the increasing fears of the possibility of renewed escalation in the sector, as this time is a decisive test for the future of the truce.
