Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, received at his office at the Ministry’s headquarters in the new administrative capital, Ambassador Juergen Schultz, the ambassador of the State of Germany in Cairo, to discuss ways to enhance existing cooperation frameworks and open wider horizons for future cooperation between Egypt and Germany in the fields of tourism and antiquities.
During the meeting, indicators of the tourist movement coming from the German market were reviewed to the Egyptian tourist destination during the past year and ways of cooperation to increase the number of German tourists to Egypt during the coming period, especially in light of their passion and interest in the beach tourism product and visiting coastal destinations and cities.
Promoting Egyptian tourist destinations
Works were also discussed to enhance the promotion of Egyptian tourist destinations and highlight the tourist destinations, especially the new in Egypt in the German market, in addition to discussing the possibility of organizing introductory visits to the heads of the boards of management German tourist.
The meeting touched on talking about cooperation in the field of archaeological work, especially excavation and restoration work in many archaeological sites in Egypt, and indicating that there are about 39 German archaeological mission operating in Egypt.
Egyptian -German relations
It is worth noting that the Egyptian -German relations are witnessing cooperation in the fields of tourism and antiquities; Where the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Activation participated during the month of February in the International Tourism Exhibition, which specializes in diving tourism, marine activities and water sports held in Germany, and participated in November 2024 at the TC Leipzig exhibition.
In the field of antiquities, a memorandum of understanding was signed in the year 2024 between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in the field of rediscovery of old manuscripts and papyri in Egyptian museums, which aims to rediscover old papyri and manuscripts in Egyptian museums, and to raise the efficiency of workers in the field of papyri, documentation, restoration and publish a group of selected papyri.
