Medical sources and the World Health Organization reported on Monday that an unknown disease caused the death of more than 50 people in the northwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the Associated Press.
Anonymous disease leads to dozens
Serge Naglibato, medical director of Picoro Hospital, who is a regional monitoring center, told Associated Press that the interval between the appearance of symptoms and death does not exceed 48 hours in most cases, which he described as very concerned.
According to the World Health Organization, the spread of the disease began in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on January 21, with 419 injuries, including 53 deaths.
The World Health Organization explained that the first outbreak of the disease appeared in the town of Buluko, where three children took bats, and then died within 48 hours after the symptoms of hemorrhagic fever appeared.
These incidents raise increasing concerns about the transmission of diseases from animals to humans, especially in areas where wild animals are commonly consumed.
In 2022, the World Health Organization warned of high rates of outbreaks in Africa by more than 60% during the last decade.
After a second wave of disease outbreaks appeared in the town of Boomi on February 9, 13 cases were sent to the National Institute for Biomedical Medical Research in the capital, Kinshasa, to conduct analyzes, according to the World Health Organization.
The organization emphasized that all samples were negative to the Ebola virus and other common hemorrhagic diseases such as the Marburg virus, while some cases were proven to have malaria.
It is noteworthy that last year, the Congo witnessed another outbreak of a mysterious influenza -like disease, and resulted in the death of dozens of people, as it was later found that the possible cause was malaria.
