Dr. Hamid Musa Al-Aqnas, head of the General Authority for Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed that the biggest obstacle to achieving full coverage of vaccination campaigns is the reluctance of some breeders, especially those with small numbers of livestock, to submit their animals to vaccination committees, as a result of incorrect fears or the belief that the goal is to collect money, even though the cost of vaccinations does not exceed 41 pounds.
Head of Veterinary Services: Vaccination is the only means to confront the new viral strain
Al-Aqnas explained, during a video for the Cabinet Information Center, that Egypt is currently facing a new viral strain that is transmitted through the air, and that an unvaccinated animal does not have any immunity to resist it, stressing that vaccination does not prevent the disease 100%, but it raises the animal’s immunity and makes it able to resist the virus, just as happened with Corona vaccines.
He added that vaccination depends on introducing a dead or weakened virus to form antibodies that help the animal confront the real virus, stressing: “There is no escape from any epidemic viral disease except through vaccination.”
He stressed the need for breeders to cooperate and not hide animals or hesitate to present them to committees, stressing that refraining from vaccination may lead to serious effects on livestock, calling on everyone to commit to ensuring the protection of livestock from widespread diseases.
