Combating cross-border crime
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman indicated that the Lithuanian side proposed holding a meeting early next week between the two deputy heads of the border services in the two countries to combat cross-border crime.
Varankov added: This initiative is fully consistent with the steps that Minsk has proposed to Vilnius over the past few years, namely cooperation in the field of border security and control, and we, of course, welcome it.
Earlier, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a briefing for foreign diplomats to discuss the situation on the border with Lithuania, in light of the current tensions witnessed in the border region between the two countries.
According to the Belarusian News Agency, the current situation has aroused great interest and concern among Belarus’s main partners in the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, and to provide them with full information, detailed data and the Belarusian position, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing session for heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the Republic of Belarus, with the participation of the Belarusian Deputy Minister.
