Brigadier General Sheikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Medical Services and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Treatment Abroad, participated in the sixteenth Bosphorus Summit, organized by the International Cooperation Platform (UIP-ICP) in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey, during the period from 5 to 7 November 2025, under the slogan “Global Challenges; Adapting to the New Reality.”
The Bosphorus Summit is one of the most prominent international forums that brings together leaders, decision-makers, officials and experts from various countries of the world, to discuss current global issues and explore innovative solutions to confront economic, social, environmental and health challenges, in addition to building bridges of cooperation between countries and institutions through constructive dialogue and the exchange of experiences and expertise, in a way that enhances sustainable development and international partnerships.
A large number of heads of state, ministers, leaders of international institutions and organizations, private sector representatives and academics from more than seventy countries participate in the summit annually, making it a prestigious global platform that brings together thought, politics, economics, health and education under one roof.
During his participation in the “Health” session within the summit activities, His Excellency Brigadier General Sheikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa gave a comprehensive presentation in which he discussed the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain in developing the health sector through the Royal Medical Services, highlighting the most prominent achievements and recent projects that have consolidated the Kingdom’s position in the medical field regionally and internationally.
The presentation included a review of the most important development initiatives implemented by the Royal Medical Services, including the expansion of specialized services, the launch of organ transplant programs, the application of surgical robots in a number of delicate operations, in addition to the use of artificial intelligence techniques in the management of services and health care to enhance performance efficiency and improve the quality of service provided to patients.
He also referred to the international cooperation efforts between the Royal Medical Services and a number of global health institutions in Canada, the Republic of Ireland, and the Republic of Turkey, with the aim of exchanging experiences, developing medical and research skills, and strengthening partnerships in the fields of education, training, and modern technologies.
The presentation touched on examples of medical centers of excellence in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which are considered among the most prominent health edifices in the region, such as the Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Specialized Heart Centre, the Bahrain Oncology Centre, and the His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalid Center for Kidney Diseases, which represent a fundamental pillar in the medical development process witnessed by the Kingdom.
Brigadier General Sheikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa confirmed during his intervention that the Kingdom of Bahrain has achieved a qualitative leap in building an advanced health system thanks to the support of the wise leadership and its continued interest in the health sector, pointing out that the Bahraini experience in digital transformation and employing technology in medical services has become a model to be emulated in the region.
He added that this participation confirms the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in developing the health sector, strengthening its position on the regional and global health map, and consolidating its presence in international forums concerned with the future of health care, medical innovation and quality of life, noting the importance of such platforms in consolidating international relations and exchanging knowledge and experiences, which contributes to building a more sustainable and balanced future, and reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to investing in people and community health, and achieving quality of life for citizens and residents alike.
On the sidelines of the summit activities, His Excellency Brigadier General Doctor Sheikh Fahd bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa met with His Excellency Ambassador Bassam Marzouq, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Republic of Turkey, where they discussed ways to enhance joint health cooperation between the Kingdom and Turkey, and develop partnerships in the fields of medical education and advanced health technologies, in addition to exploring joint investment opportunities in the health sector. His Excellency stressed the importance of such meetings in deepening bilateral relations, exchanging international experiences, and supporting the Kingdom’s vision of enhancing the quality of health services for citizens and residents alike.
