Today, Thursday, the Suez Misdemeanor Court of Appeals is hearing the appeal in the case of the “Slapped Suez Elderly Man,” in which a first-instance ruling was issued acquitting the defendants of the incident.
A judicial source told Cairo 24 that the Public Prosecution filed a memorandum of appeal against the ruling acquitting the defendants, Assem and Ali Gharib, after they were accused of slapping Gharib Mubarak, known in the media as the “Old Man of Suez,” following disputes that broke out between them.
The source explained that the hearing will be held today before the Misdemeanor Appeals Chamber to consider the case.
The victim, Gharib Mubarak, had submitted before the Faisal and Al-Janain Misdemeanor Court an official waiver of his accusation against Asim and Ali Gharib of assaulting him, so the court acquitted them of charges of bullying, insults, and slander.
In another context, the investigation authorities in the Suez Governorate decided to imprison an unemployed man for 15 days pending investigation, after he was caught in possession of a quantity of narcotic drugs during a security campaign carried out by the relevant agencies in the governorate.
