The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced the continuation of launching the “Grow” initiative in its fourth season to reach the governorates of Sharqia and Ismailia, as part of the fourth phase of the Grow initiative plan, which aims to spread the culture of productive agriculture and as a distinguished model for social protection and enhance food security. The initiative comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Social Solidarity to support development initiatives and achieve sustainable development goals.
The activities of the initiative were launched, implemented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the National Alliance for Private Development Action, and the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services in Ismailia Governorate.
This came in the presence of Major General Pilot Akram Muhammad Jalal, Governor of Ismailia, during the celebration held in the Olympic Village in Ismailia, in the presence of Maha Hafnawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in the governorate, and a number of executive leaders, leaders of the Coptic Evangelical Organization, and farmers participating in the initiative.
The initiative in Ismailia Governorate aims to cultivate 3,280 acres as part of a comprehensive plan to support small farmers and improve the productivity of agricultural lands in the governorate, by providing high-quality seeds, technical support and agricultural extension, and encouraging the use of modern methods in agriculture to rationalize water consumption and raise production efficiency.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity confirmed that the “Agricultural” initiative represents a pioneering model of strategic partnership between the government and civil society, to support the Egyptian farmer, provide job opportunities, and improve the standard of living in the countryside, explaining that the “Agricultural” initiative is a participatory model in working with civil society in achieving agricultural development, which is an essential axis for sustainable development and in support of the Ministry’s efforts in social protection for the sake of empowerment and production by supporting the groups most in need and most cared for by small farmers.
As for Sharqia Governorate, Engineer Hazem Al-Ashmouni, Governor of Sharqia, launched the fourth phase of the “Plant” initiative, which aims to grow 30,000 acres of wheat during the 2025-2026 agricultural season. This step comes within the framework of the state’s plan to support the cultivation of strategic crops, especially wheat, as it is one of the pillars of Egyptian food security, in the presence of Ahmed Hamdy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Sharqia, the governorate’s executive leaders, and the leaders of the Coptic Evangelical Authority.
It is worth noting that the Plant Initiative, in its fourth season, aims to support and encourage the cultivation of the wheat crop for the 2025/2026 agricultural season in sixteen governorates extending from Beheira in the north to Aswan in the south, by targeting the cultivation of about 250 thousand acres of wheat.
The distribution of wheat seeds to beneficiary farmers in the targeted governorates has also begun, with a subsidy of up to half the price of the seeds, in addition to providing technical support and implementing field schools for farmers to apply the latest agricultural practices and ensure the best production results are achieved.
The initiative also aims to enable vulnerable families, youth, and rural women to implement productive agricultural projects, through the use of modern agricultural methods that ensure the sustainability of resources and achieve the highest possible productivity.
