Two senior officials said that Syria foiled two separate plots by ISIS to assassinate President Ahmed al-Sharaa, according to what Reuters reported today (Monday).
This comes as Syria prepares to join a US-led coalition to fight the terrorist organization.
The two sources, a Middle East official and a Syrian security official, added that the two plots targeting Sharaa were foiled during the past few months, which confirms the direct threat to the Syrian president, as he seeks to consolidate his authority in a country torn by a 14-year civil war.
The two sources said that one of the two ISIS plots was focused on Sharaa’s previously announced official participation, and they refused to provide further details due to the sensitivity of the matter.
