Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, confirmed that the extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Tourism in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries renewed the support of the GCC countries for the nomination of Sheikha Al-Nowais from the United Arab Emirates to the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization for the period 2026-2029.
This came during the extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Tourism, which was held today, Sunday, in the city of Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Secretary-General also stated that the Gulf consensus to support Al Nowais embodies the continued influential presence of the GCC countries in international arenas, and reflects the competence of Gulf cadres and their ability to contribute to the development of the global tourism sector. He also confirms that support for this nomination comes in line with the GCC countries’ orientation towards enhancing the role of women and enabling them to assume leadership positions at the regional and international levels.
