On the occasion of the sixteenth anniversary of the establishment of the National Institution for Human Rights, Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Darazi, Chairman of the Institution, confirmed that the development achieved in human rights work during this period is the result of a continuous integrated effort and institutional work based on professionalism and independence, whose goal is to strengthen the human rights system in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and to consolidate the principles of justice and equality in accordance with approved international standards.
Al-Darazi said: “The establishment of the institution on November 10, 2009 was a sublime initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the country’s great king, to constitute an important milestone in the process of promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom.
The special support and care given by His Majesty to the Foundation has contributed to enabling it to carry out its role independently and responsibly, and to consolidating the national partnership approach in spreading the culture of human rights and protecting rights and freedoms for all.”
Al-Darazi also appreciated the constructive cooperation with the esteemed government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who played an active role in enabling the institution to implement its initiatives and enhance its ability to achieve its national goals.
Al-Darazi stated that the Foundation has continued over the past sixteen years to strengthen its institutional presence by receiving complaints, monitoring human rights conditions, and conducting field visits, in addition to providing proposals and advice regarding relevant national legislation and policies.
The Foundation also worked to spread the culture of human rights through training and awareness programs and building partnerships with academic and community institutions, which contributes to establishing sustainable awareness of respect for rights and freedoms.
At the conclusion of his statement, the President of the Foundation affirmed that the Foundation is continuing to perform its role to promote and protect rights and freedoms in the Kingdom of Bahrain according to a methodology based on partnership and integration with the relevant authorities, in a way that supports the process of human rights development and enhances the Kingdom’s position at the regional and international levels, expressing his confidence that the next stage will witness more initiatives and programs that contribute to consolidating a culture of human rights in society in a sustainable manner.
