As part of its specific programs to enhance the uses of artificial intelligence in parliamentary work, the General Secretariat of the House of Representatives held a virtual symposium entitled “Governance of Artificial Intelligence Systems in Parliamentary Work,” with the participation of Dr. Amal Shaheen, Director of Human Resources at the Bahrain Technical College “Bahrain Polytechnic,” and Dr. Hassan Kazim, Associate Professor of Computer Science at the College of Engineering and Computers at the American University in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and in the presence of a number of Secretariat employees.
The symposium comes in implementation of the directives of Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the follow-up of Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, in implementing specific programs and initiatives related to artificial intelligence in parliamentary work.
During the symposium, Dr. Amal Shaheen emphasized that the governance of artificial intelligence systems in parliamentary work constitutes a regulatory framework that contributes to developing the use of artificial intelligence, accurately evaluating these systems, and ensuring their optimal use.
For his part, Dr. Hassan Kazem stressed that parliamentary data constitutes the most important element for training any artificial intelligence system, as this data guarantees the provision of accurate and reliable results.
The virtual symposium coincides with the House of Representatives’ launch of a package of artificial intelligence projects following the Council’s obtaining the ISO certificate for artificial intelligence in parliamentary work after passing the international standard (ISO 42001) for the artificial intelligence management system in the field of parliamentary work. The artificial intelligence program package for the Council includes: parliamentary advisor, information platform, digital law, analytical session, smart researcher, data, and smart parliamentary platform.
