Muhammad Gibran said, Minister of LabourThe Ministry periodically intensifies its inspection campaigns to follow up on the implementation of the minimum wage in various establishments, in addition to following up on the implementation of the provisions of the Labor Law, adding: I am keen to participate on the ground in a number of campaigns myself, to ensure full compliance on the part of business owners.
The minister explained in statements to Cairo 24 that the number of violations issued is announced weekly, with continuous appeals to employers to adhere to the provisions of the labor law in a way that guarantees the rights of the Egyptian worker and maintains the stability of the labor market.
The role of the Ministry of Labor in reducing the unemployment rate
Regarding the unemployment file, Gibran indicated that the unemployment rate in Egypt declined from 13% in 2014 to 6.1% currently, commenting: This reflects the extent of the state’s interest in the employment file, and the role of the Ministry of Labor in the continuous follow-up of this vital file.
He pointed out that this decline came as a result of the giant national projects implemented by the state, and the new job opportunities they provide, in addition to the ministry’s efforts in coordination with the private sector.
The Minister of Labor explained that the Ministry issues bi-monthly bulletins that include various job opportunities in all governorates, in coordination with labor directorates, to provide jobs in various sectors within the local market, as well as supervising employment tests abroad that are conducted weekly under the direct supervision of the Ministry, to ensure the integrity of the selection and protect the rights of Egyptian workers abroad.
The size of the Egyptian workforce exceeds 30 million citizens
Gibran pointed out that the size of the workforce in Egypt currently exceeds 30 million citizens, stressing that the Ministry pays great attention to the vocational training system in cooperation with the private sector, with the aim of qualifying young people and developing their skills in accordance with the needs of the labor market.
Mohamed Gibran added that the Ministry is moving confidently on the right path, as it has activated a number of important protocols during the past period, including a cooperation agreement with the Italian Salesian Institute and a number of Egyptian universities and major companies, as part of an integrated national strategy to qualify youth, contribute to reducing unemployment, and support the state’s plan for sustainable development.
