Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, witnessed the signing ceremony of a project agreement to establish an electricity generation station using solar cells with a capacity of 20 megawatts, and a connected station to store electrical energy using battery technology with a capacity of 30 megawatt hours, in addition to an environmentally friendly information and training center, to enhance the uses of renewable energy, between the New and Renewable Energy Development and Utilization Authority, the Japanese company Eutec, and the Egyptian companies Solar Anstollar and Redcon.

This comes within the framework of the National Energy Strategy and the work program to maximize the role of new and renewable energies in the energy mix and reliance on them, and reduce carbon emissions, and in light of the partnership and cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The agreement was signed by Engineer Ihab Ismail, Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Development and Utilization Authority, and Engineer Osamu Saka Jamei, representative of the coalition, in the presence of Ambassador Fumio Iwai, Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Ebisawa Yu, Head of the JICA Office in Cairo, and the accompanying delegation.
The agreement includes the executive steps and timetables for implementing the project within the city of Hurghada, to produce 48,000 megawatts annually, including 36,000 megawatts from the solar station and 12,000 megawatts from the energy storage station.
The amount of savings in carbon dioxide emissions amounts to 26,400 tons. The agreement includes procedures for establishing an information center attached to the station that will be environmentally friendly (Zero Energy Building), rely mainly on renewable energy and work to improve energy efficiency. It will be equipped with all modern capabilities, equipment, devices, and meeting rooms to enhance the use of renewable energies, in addition to activating its role as a global training center for workers in this field from the public and private sectors.
He stressed that the electricity sector is working with international partners to promote and disseminate the uses of renewable energies, reduce carbon emissions and diversify energy sources, pointing to the action plan to maximize the use of new and renewable energy resources and the measures the state has taken to prepare the investment environment to support the private sector and attract more investments, explaining the great importance that the electricity and renewable energy sector attaches to spreading the uses of renewable energies, reducing carbon emissions and diversifying energy sources.
The Minister referred to the National Energy Strategy, which aims to increase the contribution of renewable energy to the energy mix, and to benefit from Egypt’s natural resources, especially new and renewable energy sources. It aims to reach the percentage of renewable energy’s contribution to the energy mix to more than 42% by 2030, and 65% by 2040, and to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, which helps preserve the environment, because of its significant impact on the economic return. He praised the partnership and cooperation with JICA, stressing that the private sector is a major partner in projects. Renewable energy.
