Astronomy enthusiasts around the world are preparing to see a distinctive celestial spectacle this week, as the largest giant moon of 2025 will appear next Wednesday evening, with a brightness greater than usual by 16% and a size greater by about 8%, in a rare astronomical phenomenon that will not be repeated with such clarity until the year 2026.

According to what was published by the British newspaper Daily Mail, this remarkable scene occurs when the moon approaches the point of lunar perigee, which is its closest distance to the Earth during its non-circular orbit, as it will be only about 357 thousand kilometers away, compared to the average distance of 384 thousand kilometers.
The Royal Museums of Greenwich said in a statement that the full moon will appear as a bright white ball in the sky unless clouds obscure the view, and it is a great opportunity to observe it with the naked eye, using a small telescope, or even taking distinctive pictures.
The November moon is traditionally known as the Beaver Moon, a name whose roots go back to Native American cultures and early European settlers, who associated it with the period when beavers were active in building dams and storing food in preparation for the winter.

The appearance of the supermoon this year will coincide with Bonfire Night, giving photography enthusiasts a rare opportunity to document the moon in a special festive atmosphere.
Although the supermoon causes a slight increase in tides due to the additional gravitational force, the Royal Marine Research Group explained that this effect is only a few inches compared to the usual tide.
It will be easy to take beautiful pictures of the giant moon using smartphones provided they are fixed on a stable surface, while professional photographers are advised to use telephoto lenses ranging between 250 and 600 mm and a shutter speed not exceeding 1/30 of a second to get the best details.
The next supermoon is scheduled to appear on December 4, but this week’s phenomenon will be the largest and brightest until November 24, 2026.
