The activities of the eighth edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season continue with the second half of the fishing competition (Al Haddag), which is being held this week for the Cup of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, amid wide participation from fishermen and sea lovers from various regions of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
This half comes as an extension of the great success witnessed in the first half of the competition, which was held last week for the Cup of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, which was characterized by a large public presence and strong competition among more than 900 sailors who competed over two days to catch the four main types of fish: kingfish, sha’ari, grouper, and locust.
His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad’s run is the culmination of a season full of heritage and marine activities, as the participating boats set off at dawn on Friday in an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and excitement, reflecting Bahrainis’ connection to the sea and their authentic heritage.
The competition is expected to witness strong competition among the participating boats because it represents a special place in the hearts of fishermen, who see it as an opportunity to evoke the spirit of their ancestors and revive traditional fishing skills.
The organization of the season by the Bahraini Traditional Sports Committee, with the support of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, confirms His Highness’s keenness to preserve the maritime heritage and enhance the connection of new generations to their history and national heritage.
The season also aims to spread the values of patience, discipline and team spirit, which have formed the essence of the lives of Bahrainis throughout generations.
Today, the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season has become a national event firmly established in the sporting and cultural agenda of the Kingdom of Bahrain, having succeeded since its launch eight years ago in reviving traditional sports and expanding the base of popular participation in them.
The season has turned into an annual festival that reflects Bahrainis’ pride in their ancient heritage and embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to make traditional sports a bridge that connects the past to the present and enhances the spirit of belonging and pride in national identity.
