US President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping “was wonderful,” stressing that many important decisions were taken during it.
The discussions, which lasted about 100 minutes at Gimhae Air Base in Busan, South Korea, confirmed that Trump had resulted in an agreement to begin China’s purchases of American soybeans “immediately.” Xi also expressed his commitment to doing his best to stop the smuggling of the narcotic “fentanyl” into the United States.
However, Trump acknowledged that “I can’t say we discussed everything,” indicating that there were other issues that were not covered during the meeting.
Taiwan
Regarding Taiwan, Trump made it clear that he did not discuss the issue with the Chinese President during their meeting in South Korea.
“The Taiwan issue was never addressed,” Trump said from Air Force One after meeting with Xi in South Korea.
Trump announced that in the meeting with his Chinese counterpart, he had reached a renewable agreement for one year on the supply of vital rare minerals.
Minerals and Ukraine
Trump added to reporters, “An agreement has been reached on all rare earth elements, and this concerns the whole world,” noting that the agreement is valid for a year, and will be renegotiated annually.
In another file, the US President said that he agreed with his Chinese counterpart during the talks to “work together” on the war in Ukraine.
Trump continued, “Ukraine has been of great interest. We talked about it at length, and we will work together to see if we can achieve something.”
Earlier on Thursday, the Chinese President told his American counterpart that despite their countries’ sometimes different views, they should strive to be “partners and friends.”
“China and the United States can jointly shoulder responsibility as two great powers, and work together to accomplish more great and tangible things for the benefit of our two countries and the world,” Xi added at the beginning of the talks in Busan, South Korea.
