Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with Benjamin Hu Wai, CEO of Huawei Egypt, in a meeting aimed at enhancing joint cooperation between the two sides in the fields of energy storage and digital transformation, as this comes within the national energy strategy, which reflects the trend towards expanding renewable energy projects and relying on them to increase their returns, and from here the importance of partnership with leading companies such as Huawei to achieve these goals becomes clear.
During the meeting, areas of cooperation were reviewed, including the use of Huawei technologies in establishing electricity storage stations, and studies related to the feasibility of these projects in various locations were analyzed, ensuring the stability of the network and enhancing the continuity of electrical supply. Projects for reducing energy loss and managing electricity networks were also discussed, in addition to an experimental model in Port Said Governorate that shows positive results in this context.
The Minister explained that energy storage projects are considered one of the basic pillars of network stability, noting the importance of establishing storage stations connected to renewable energy projects, as this achieves stability in electrical supply operations, especially when relying on renewable energy sources such as the sun and wind, as approximately 2,500 megawatts are added annually to the unified network, which reflects the importance of these investments.
Dr. Esmat also emphasized the role of modern technology in achieving the quality and efficiency of the network, as network updates are necessary to improve performance and services provided, noting that energy storage systems provide the necessary support and create conditions for the effective growth of renewable energy, which in turn contributes to strengthening private and local sector partnerships in this field.
