Today, Tuesday, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, inaugurated five high-speed stations for charging electric vehicles, as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve climate goals and reach carbon neutrality at the local and international levels.
The Minister stressed that the inauguration of these stations represents a qualitative leap in the process of transformation towards sustainable transportation and clean energy in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that the project reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting innovation and adopting environmentally friendly technical solutions in order to achieve a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability.
He added that this initiative represents a model of integration between infrastructure development and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility in society, stressing that the Ministry continues to support innovation, smart technologies, and the development of green infrastructure in line with climate goals.
This project comes within the framework of developing the infrastructure for electric vehicles, as five high-speed charging stations were established in strategic locations, including Diyar Al Muharraq, The Avenues Mall, Adliya – Block 338, Al Liwan, and Durrat Al Bahrain.
These stations feature a charging capacity of up to 360 kilowatts using direct charging (DC) technology, which enables vehicles to be charged from zero to 80% in less than 15 minutes, making them among the fastest charging stations in the region.
The Minister stressed that the project contributes to integrating renewable energy sources, primarily solar energy, into the electric charging system, thus enhancing national sustainability goals and ensuring a reduction in the carbon footprint. And in
As part of supporting the trend towards more sustainable means of transportation, the Ministry announced the provision of a free charging service for a period of six months to encourage the experience of using electric vehicles, and to evaluate their suitability to the needs of citizens and residents, in a step that reflects the Ministry’s commitment to expanding sustainable transportation options.
The Ministry also launched an advanced digital application available on iOS and Android, which allows users to know the locations of the five stations and follow their status in real time, in addition to the possibility of electronic payment and reviewing usage details such as charging duration and cost.
This application is an important step in the digital transformation of the energy sector, which contributes to improving the quality of services provided to citizens and residents.
