The Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services celebrated on Monday evening the diamond jubilee of its founding, on the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the launch of its national and humanitarian work, in the Ewart Hall at the American University in Tahrir, in the midst of a high-level presence of ministers, governors, and religious, intellectual, and media leaders.

In his speech during the celebration, Dr. Reverend Andre Zaki, President of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services and Head of the Evangelical Community in Egypt, expressed his sincere appreciation to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his continued support for development efforts, praising the great role played by the Ministry of Social Solidarity in supporting civil society institutions and promoting the values of justice and citizenship.
Dr. Zaki said that the Authority has been linked since its inception to the national side, stressing that citizenship is not just a political term, but rather a safe space for everyone under the umbrella of the Constitution and the law, adding that the Authority always seeks an effective partnership with state institutions in all development initiatives in order to achieve sustainable development.
The Chairman of the Authority indicated that the Authority participated in popular diplomacy initiatives, in addition to its active participation in the projects of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the National Alliance for Civil Development Action, stressing that the next stage will witness the expansion of partnerships and the strengthening of the system of transparency and measurement, announcing the launch of a new chapter of development work on the occasion of the diamond jubilee of the Coptic Evangelical Authority.
For her part, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, confirmed that the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services is one of the most important civil society institutions in Egypt, praising its historical and national role in supporting development and serving humanity without discrimination.
The Minister expressed her pride in having her deputy, Engineer Margaret Saroufim, be one of the most prominent cadres of the Authority, noting that the Evangelical Church had the credit for establishing the first girls’ school in Egypt, and also had a major role in eradicating illiteracy and establishing the American University in Cairo, which paved the way for the establishment of the Coptic Evangelical Authority to continue the process of education and development.
The Minister added that the Authority has presented a unique and comprehensive model in human service, as it operates today in more than ten governorates and serves all citizens as partners in the nation, and has established a culture of community service as an integral part of its policy. She stressed that the Authority paid special attention to childhood, provided distinguished programs in rural development and the integration of marginalized groups, and invested in people as an active partner in development, adopting an approach of empowerment, not care.
She explained that the authority was inspired by the values of love, tolerance and compassion from the heavenly religions and applied them on the ground through its development projects, stressing that cooperation between the state and civil society institutions is the basis for building the new Egypt led by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
In her speech, Dr. Mervat Akhanoukh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Coptic Evangelical Authority, affirmed that the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee is the culmination of an extended journey of faith in humanity and service to society in the spirit of citizenship and justice, noting that the Authority’s values are not slogans but rather guiding lines of action for every program and initiative.
She said: “We learned from the Authority that love of the homeland is a sublime message, that teamwork is the secret to continuity, and that creativity in facing challenges is what ensures the survival of the message and enhances its impact.”
She added that the Authority’s future is based on the principles of peace, coexistence, acceptance of others, justice, equality, and sustainability, stressing the Authority’s commitment to continuing to work in the spirit of innovation and deep belief in its humanitarian mission.
The celebration witnessed a high-level presence, led by Ambassador Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women, Ambassador Nabila Makram, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Private Development Action, and Engineer Margaret Sarofim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, to Along with a number of current governors and ministers.
