The Parliamentary Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee approved the proposed law amending Article (277), first paragraph of Decree Law No. (46) of 2002 promulgating the Criminal Procedure Code, which includes extending the period of objection to the criminal order from seven days to a month. The draft law aims to give the person against whom the criminal order was issued sufficient time to study the matter and determine whether he will accept the order or object to it through legal means.
For its part, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments considered that the proposed law conflicts with the nature and objectives of the criminal order system, while the National Institution for Human Rights confirmed that the proposed law does not affect established human rights and freedoms, and does not conflict with relevant international decisions. The Bahraini Bar Association also saw that the proposed law contributes to achieving justice.
