This came during his participation in the New York Comic Book Fair, where he spoke to actor Joe Pantoliano about the background of filming the film, which has become an icon in the world of science fiction.
Fishburne, 64, explained that he and Keanu Reeves spent nearly 10 months intensely training for the famous fight scene, saying: “Both Keanu and I were black and blue from bruises after filming.
He continued: We started training six months before traveling to Australia, and training continued for an additional four months on the ground before filming the scene over a period of approximately three days.
Fishburne pointed out that this serious commitment reflects how keen the actors were to deliver a realistic performance, adding: We did not take any shortcuts, and everything was carefully thought out to achieve the vision of the film, and the experience was physically difficult, but it was necessary to master the fight sequences.
Joe Pantoliano also described the preparations for the film’s scenes as being like a ballet, noting the great coordination between the actors and the smoothness of the shots, which contributed to transforming the fight scenes into a unique cinematic symphony compared to what we see in science fiction films today.
The film The Matrix was released in 1999, and also co-starred Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Gloria Foster.
