Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Fayoum, followed the efforts of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine through the events and activities that were implemented during the month of last October, which were reviewed in the report of Dr. Wagdy Mustafa Nayel, Director of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Fayoum.
The Governor of Fayoum praised the efforts made by the workers of the Veterinary Medicine Directorate and its veterinary units in the various centers and villages of the governorate, calling on them to exert more effort, in continuation of the state’s efforts to preserve livestock, which represent part of Egyptian food security, and increase their productivity, improve their breeds, and protect them from epidemic diseases.
Vaccinating 1,840 heads of livestock against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever
The Director of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Fayoum indicated that the various departments of the Directorate carried out many activities and events during the month of last October, as the Department of Slaughterhouses and Public Health conducted inspections of meat and poultry inside government facilities in the governorate, with a total of 2,434 kg of meat and 8,670 kg of poultry.
The Care and Treatment Department also conducted veterinary medical examinations on 4,120 animals, while the Services Department carried out insurance procedures for 346 animals, registered and numbered 27 animals, and issued 21 inspection cards for 14 veterinary clinics and centers.
The Department of Preventive Medicine continued to vaccinate livestock against foot-and-mouth disease, Rift Valley fever, and lumpy skin, and the total number of heads of cattle that were vaccinated reached 1,840 animals, with 1,012 heads of cattle vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease, and 828 animals against Rift Valley fever, and 7,750 heads of cows were vaccinated against lumpy skin disease, 893 heads of sheep, and 27 heads of goats were vaccinated against Sheeppox, 15,157 sheep and goats against peste des petits ruminants, and vaccinating 2,420 heads against three-day fever. The Poultry Department also treated 20,029 birds and vaccinated 235,835 birds.
He added that the Directorate’s Artificial Insemination Department carried out artificial insemination with the best and finest breeds to improve and increase the productivity of 2,655 heads of cows and 213 heads of buffaloes, with a total of 2,868 animals.
The Extension Department, in cooperation with local units, organized 170 seminars and many awareness and guidance campaigns for citizens about the importance of vaccinating, registering, numbering and protecting livestock, methods of raising and caring for animals, and common diseases between humans and animals and ways to prevent them.
In implementation of the directives of the Fayoum Governor, the Veterinary Medicine Directorate launched intensive campaigns on meat and poultry outlets to ensure their compliance with health requirements. The Department of Slaughterhouses and Public Health was able to seize 3,683.5 kilograms of meat unfit for human consumption. The seized items were seized and the necessary legal measures were taken regarding them.
