Today, Tuesday, the First Circuit of the Red Sea Criminal Court, headed by Counselor Ali Mashhour, President of the Court, issued a decision to postpone hearings of the trial of the young man accused of killing his friend in Safaga and throwing his body in the street due to an argument over a pack of cigarettes, until February of next year.

The details of the case go back to the decision of the First Public Prosecutor of the Red Sea Prosecution Office, to refer a young man accused of killing his friend and throwing his body in the street due to an argument over a pack of cigarettes, to the Criminal Court, on charges of premeditated murder, while continuing his detention pending Case No. 2825 Safaga Felony.

Investigations revealed that the security services in the city of Safaga revealed the circumstances of the murder of a young man whose body was found drowned in his blood in one of the city’s streets. It turned out that a dispute and argument over a pack of cigarettes developed into a murder that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old young man.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim was with one of his friends inside a residential apartment, and while they were there, a pack of cigarettes disappeared, sparking a verbal altercation between the two parties. The accused beat the victim using an iron chain, then tied him up, which led to his death from his injuries.

After the victim was killed, the accused disposed of the body by throwing it on a street in Safaga to hide his crime, where residents found it, thinking that he was the victim of a traffic accident, and they informed the security authorities.

By intensifying search and investigation efforts, the criminal investigation team led by Safaga Detectives, through reviewing surveillance cameras, hearing witness statements, and collecting information, was able to identify the body and the perpetrator of the crime.

Hours after the report was made, the security services succeeded in arresting the accused, who confessed in detail to the incident and its circumstances.

The accused was detained and his detention renewed pending investigations, until a decision was issued to refer him to the Criminal Court, and his first trial session was scheduled.
