South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-bak and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will visit the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas on Monday, a day before their annual security talks.
This visit, the first of its kind since October 2017, to the demilitarized zone, comes within the framework of the US Secretary of Defense’s two-day visit to South Korea. It is his first visit to South Korea, and the last stop on his Asian tour that included Japan, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Ahn and Hegseth will jointly hold the allies’ annual defense dialogue, called the Security Advisory Meeting, on Tuesday to discuss a range of alliance issues, such as coordinating their policies on North Korea and the common defense posture.
