Next Sunday, the Shura Council will discuss the report of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee on a draft law ratifying the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Agreement for member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the field of anti-corruption law enforcement, attached to Decree No. 1 of 2025.
The Council’s Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee expressed its approval of the project as a confirmation of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ratification of the agreement and its firm commitment to combating corruption as it is one of the main challenges facing societies and countries, and supports its efforts in developing the national legislative system aimed at preventing it, criminalizing it and prosecuting its perpetrators, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and applicable national laws, and consistent with the objectives of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
The Committee stated that the agreement aims to enhance cooperation between law enforcement authorities in the States Parties through the effective and rapid exchange of information and investigations, with the aim of preventing, detecting, investigating, prosecuting the crimes covered by its provisions, prosecuting their perpetrators, and recovering the funds and assets obtained from them, in a way that enhances the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.
She pointed out that the agreement strengthens the frameworks for technical assistance, training and exchange of experiences between the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in a way that contributes to raising the efficiency of the national agencies concerned with combating corruption, and developing their institutional and technical capabilities in this field, in addition to highlighting the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain within the system of joint Islamic action. It is also consistent with the relevant international agreements that the Kingdom has previously joined, most notably the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the Arab Convention against Corruption, which reflects the Kingdom’s keenness to consolidate regional and international cooperation to combat corruption and promote the principles of transparency. And integrity.
