The Egyptian Red Crescent received President Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia, on a historic visit to the General Center, in the presence of Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent. Dr. Adel Al-Adawi, former Minister of Health and member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Red Crescent, Dr. Amal Emam, Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, and from the Colombian side, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Los Elena Martinez Casab, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Cairo, and Victor DeCoria, Advisor to the President for Middle East Affairs.
The President of the Republic of Colombia began his speech by praising Egypt’s efforts and the role played by the Egyptian Red Crescent in providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, stressing that they are aware of the crisis of the Palestinian people since their land was divided, adding that they have followed the deteriorating conditions occurring in the Gaza Strip, wishing that the violence would end, and demanding that the Gaza reconstruction step be published through the media, especially since reconstruction is a humanitarian term, and humanity is the one who will rebuild the Gaza Strip, with support. Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
For her part, the Minister of Solidarity welcomed the President of the Republic of Colombia on his visit to the Egyptian Red Crescent, noting that the Egyptian Red Crescent Society is a shining model of solidarity and giving in times of crises and disasters, and an essential pillar of the humanitarian work system in Egypt and the region, with a history that extends for more than a hundred years.
She stressed that the visit of the President of the Republic of Colombia expresses the depth of the humanitarian relations between Egypt and Colombia, and the convergence of shared values in supporting the human person and preserving his dignity. The Egyptian Red Crescent, under the patronage of Mrs. Intisar El-Sisi, honorary president of the Egyptian Red Crescent and wife of the President of the Republic, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, works in the spirit of international cooperation, and always puts people first, which we also see in the inspiring experiences that Colombia presents in the field of building peace and promoting social justice.
Dr. Maya Morsi explained that we believe that humanitarian work knows no borders, and that partnerships between peoples and institutions are the path to a safer and more compassionate world. The Egyptian Red Crescent is the relevant national mechanism for coordinating aid to the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Red Crescent, its volunteers, and its staff played a pivotal role in coordinating humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip for more than 750 days, which won the appreciation and respect of the entire world.
The Minister of Social Solidarity indicated that we look forward, through this visit, to opening new horizons for humanitarian cooperation and exchange between the two sides, whether in the areas of relief, social development, or supporting the most vulnerable groups.
The Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent presented the President of the Republic of Colombia with the Egyptian Red Crescent Shield, the Humanity Shield, in appreciation of its efforts.
On the sidelines of the visit, the President of the Republic of Colombia and his accompanying delegation, accompanied by the Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Adel Al-Adawi and the Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, inspected the Center for Packing and Preparing Humanitarian Aid to see the mechanism for preparing food baskets, where the President of the Republic of Colombia filled out one of the forms that will be sent to the Gaza Strip, sending a message of support to the Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip.
The President of the Republic of Colombia also inspected the central operations room at the headquarters of the General Center of the Red Crescent, and was briefed on the efforts of the volunteers, praising their efforts and outstanding performance.
