Representative Mounir Ibrahim Sorour, member of the Services Committee in the House of Representatives, participated in the Parliamentary Forum organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the Second World Social Summit, which was held in the capital, Doha, during November 6-9.
The delegation of the Parliamentary Division participated in the plenary session of the Parliamentary Forum, which was titled “Investing in People and Institutions: The Role of Parliamentarians in Social Development.” Mr. Talal Mohammed Al-Mannai, head of the Parliamentary Division delegation, delivered a speech in which he affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, may God protect and preserve him, and the support and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, to develop areas of social development and make the citizen Bahrainis are among the priorities of comprehensive development efforts.
During its participation, the Parliamentary Division delegation met with Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council, His Excellency Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Mr. Martin Chongong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Ms. “Pauline Dino-Feborg,” Youth Empowerment Policies Officer at the United Nations Development Programme, along with a number of officials and parliamentarians.
The Parliamentary Division delegation also attended a number of dialogue sessions, seminars and events held at the Second World Summit, where it participated in the regional side event on the sidelines of the Summit, entitled: (The Road to Comprehensive Social Development: From Empowerment to Independent Living “The Kingdom of Bahrain as a Case Study”), which witnessed a speech by Mr. Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development.
The Parliamentary Division delegation also participated in the event announcing the third edition of Her Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa International Women’s Empowerment Award, which was organized by the Supreme Council for Women and the United Nations for Women, and presented by Professor Lulwah Al-Awadhi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women.
The delegation also visited the Kingdom of Bahrain’s exhibition platform at the World Summit, which bears the title “Bahraini Productive Families: Heritage, Innovation, and Pathways for Economic Participation,” and praised the efforts of the Ministry and the work team in highlighting Bahraini successes in the field of social development, and caring for the target groups of the elderly, productive families, people of determination, and all those deserving of care and social services.
The delegation also participated in the symposium (Women at the Heart of Development: From Empowerment to Influence), which was organized by the Sultanate of Oman in cooperation with the State of Kuwait and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as attending a symposium entitled: (The Suffering of Palestinian Families Under Occupation – Multidimensional Impacts on Social Development and the Social Fabric, and Innovative Solutions for Social Protection, Inclusion, and Justice.
The delegation of the Parliamentary Division expressed its deepest congratulations and congratulations to the sister State of Qatar on the success of the Second World Summit, praising the efforts of the Qatari Shura Council for the good organization and preparation of the Parliamentary Forum and the generous hospitality, and appreciating the efforts of Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Ghatam, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the sister State of Qatar, and the entire embassy staff, to facilitate and facilitate the work of the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the delegation of the Parliamentary Division.
