The Ministry of Works organizes an introductory seminar on the innovation competition in irrigation solutions

In implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, to hold an innovation competition in irrigation solutions, with the aim of encouraging creative ideas and solutions that contribute to benefiting from surplus treated water, and enhancing the efficiency of its use in agriculture and afforestation, which contributes to the sustainability of resources and preserving the environment, and the expansion of irrigation networks, in order to achieve the goals of the comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, may God protect him. Under its sponsorship, the Ministry of Public Works organized an introductory symposium with the aim of highlighting the details of the competition, the participation mechanism and application conditions, and answering participants’ inquiries before the end of the registration period specified on November 6, 2025.

The Ministry explained that the competition targets all individuals, engineering offices, contractors, universities, institutes, scientific research centers, and other concerned parties, to provide practical innovations that contribute to improving the efficiency of water use and ensuring a balanced distribution of irrigation for trees and crops, thus enhancing the efficiency of agricultural and urban beautification operations in various regions of the Kingdom.

The Ministry also reviewed the main objectives of the competition, which are to encourage creative ideas and solutions that contribute to making optimal use of treated water and increasing the efficiency of its use in agriculture and afforestation, in a way that supports environmental sustainability efforts and promotes green urban development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Ministry explained that the competition includes two categories: The first category deals with developing innovative irrigation solutions in specific areas, including King Hamad Street, Bahrain Bay Street, and Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street, while the second category focuses on selecting one of the areas not served by the treated water network and providing integrated solutions for it.

As for the evaluation criteria, the Ministry indicated that they include economic feasibility and cost, operational permanence and sustainability, the level of innovation and creativity, and the quality of design and artistic presentation, stressing that the Ministry aims, through the competition, to stimulate community and institutional participation in providing practical and sustainable solutions that support the Kingdom’s efforts to preserve its water resources and increase the green area.

The floor was opened for discussion and responses to audience inquiries regarding the registration mechanism and participation requirements. The Ministry also called on all interested individuals and engineering and research bodies to initiate registration through the electronic platform designated for the competition through the official website of the Ministry of Works www.works.gov.bh before the end of the registration period.
