The Ministry of Investment discusses with a Standard Bank delegation enhancing economic cooperation between Egypt and Africa

hosted Ministry of Investment Today, Thursday, a meeting was held between Ministry officials and a delegation of Standard Bank Group leaders, where the two sides discussed ways to expand investment cooperation, strengthen trade ties, and advance economic integration between Egypt and Africa.

During the meeting, the Egyptian side affirmed the Egyptian state’s desire to expand trade and investment relations with Africa on the basis of mutual benefit as a strategic direction, with plans to enhance trade with African countries through six Egyptian logistics centers covering various parts of the continent.

The Egyptian side expressed its desire to cooperate with Standard Bank in maximizing the use of Egyptian assets in Africa, and expanding the activity of Egyptian companies in various countries of the continent, while benefiting from the bank’s capabilities to secure and facilitate banking transactions, and to contribute to mobilizing joint public and private financing for projects in various sectors.

The Egyptian side stressed that the Egyptian state’s plans to enhance economic cooperation and integration with Africa are fully consistent with its great commercial and investment potential in light of the boom that this sector is witnessing in Egypt, explaining that Egypt has specific goals and clear policies regarding the role of the Egyptian government and the private sector in projects in various sectors, with the aim of maximizing the participation of the private sector as a main engine for achieving economic growth and development.

For their part, Standard Bank officials confirmed their full readiness to cooperate with the Egyptian government in achieving goals that serve both the Egyptian and African economies.

Bank officials reviewed the services that can be provided, such as ensuring security and confidence in banking transactions in Africa, mobilizing financing for the various stages of projects in various sectors, cooperating to solve trade and investment challenges in various African markets, and contributing to enhancing the volume of Egyptian exports to the countries of the continent and doubling the volume of intra-regional trade.

Participating in the meeting from the Egyptian side were Engineer Mohamed Al-Jousqi, Assistant Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade for Planning, Development and Digital Transformation, Ghada Nour, Assistant Minister for Investment Affairs, Promotion and Government Proposals, Abed Mahran, Assistant Minister for Enhancing the Investment Climate and Competitiveness, Dalia Al-Hawari, Executive Vice President of the General Authority for Investment, and Sarah Yousry, Senior Researcher at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones.

The Standard Bank delegation included Sim Tshabalala, Group Chief Executive Officer, Luvuyo Masinda, Chief Executive Officer, Corporate and Investment Banking, Lungisa Fuzel, Head of Public Policy and Regulatory, Mark Cannon, General Counsel and Head of Legal at Standard International, Zola Head, Strategy Enablement Officer, Corporate and Investment Banking, and Hana Muharram, Deputy Chief Representative of the Group in Egypt.
