Major General Dr. Abdel Fattah Siraj, Governor of Sohag, conducted a field tour to see the construction work of the service complex for furniture makers in the city of Tahta. This project is part of the local development program in Upper Egypt, which aims to promote economic development and support heritage and craft industries in the governorate, as these initiatives contribute to improving the people’s standard of living and raising the efficiency of the craft sector.
The governor was accompanied during the tour by Engineer Heba Abdel Hamid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing, and Ahmed Al-Shatouri, head of the Tahta Center and City, in addition to a number of executive and technical leaders in the governorate. The governor listened to a detailed explanation about the progress of work on the project, which is being built on an area of approximately 700 square meters in a lively area that includes furniture manufacturing workshops. The complex includes several floors that include all stages of furniture manufacturing, from cutting and assembly to finishing and upholstery.
The basic works have been completed, such as building the basement, pouring its roof, and preparing the columns for the ground floor. The reinforced pile and piles have also been implemented. The work is being completed according to the specified timetable. A budget of 36.3 million pounds has been allocated as a first phase, while the total value of the project is estimated at about 40.6 million pounds, including all stages of implementation, which reflects the government’s commitment to developing the furniture sector.
The governor stressed the importance of monitoring the quality of work and the speed of implementation according to the timetable, stressing the vital role that the complex plays in supporting small manufacturers and craftsmen in Tahta, and also provides them with training opportunities that contribute to raising work efficiency, in addition to improving the quality of local products, which strengthens the local economy and increases the competitiveness of manufactures.
The governor met with a number of furniture makers and craftsmen, listened to their demands and proposals, and directed the necessity of facilitating the procedures for establishing an association to manage the affairs of the furniture cluster in a way that meets their needs. He pointed out the importance of developing the roads leading to the complex to facilitate the movement of transportation and production.
During this visit, the governor showed his keenness to strengthen cooperation between the government and the artisan community, thus contributing to the development of local industries and achieving the desired progress for the city of Tahta and the surrounding areas.
