His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency, participated in the specialized symposium “The Origins of the Artemis Agreement and the Principles of the International Lunar Station,” which was organized by the Lunar Policy Platform in Madrid in cooperation with the Korea Space Research Institute, as part of a series of specialized seminars on safe and sustainable lunar activities.

Regarding this symposium, His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al-Asiri explained that this participation came at a time when global plans to explore the moon are witnessing a remarkable acceleration, as more than 100 scientific payloads are expected to reach the moon during the 2030s, which calls for the development of comprehensive political and legal frameworks to ensure the safety and sustainability of lunar activities. The symposium focused on discussing the founding principles of the Artemis Agreements and the principles of the International Lunar Station, while reviewing the founding experiences by experts who directly contributed to the development of these two frameworks.

He added, “This participation represents great strategic importance for the agency, as it comes in the context of Bahrain’s commitment as a member of the Artemis Accords, and its awareness of the importance of contributing to the formulation of international frameworks regulating future lunar activities. Participation is fully consistent with the agency’s strategic objectives in enhancing international cooperation, building global partnerships, and contributing to international efforts aimed at ensuring the peaceful and sustainable use of space.”

The knowledge and experiences gained from this symposium will contribute to adding great value to the agency’s team and its future initiatives by enhancing a deep understanding of the international frameworks regulating lunar activities, developing national capabilities in the field of preparing and formulating space policies and systems, building cooperation networks with experts and specialized international institutions, and enabling national cadres to contribute effectively to international dialogues on space exploration.

His Excellency Dr. Al-Asiri stressed that “participation in this specialized symposium reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to its active role in the international space community, and comes within the framework of our strategy to build specialized national capabilities in the field of setting space policies and systems.” His Excellency added, “Understanding the founding principles of the Artemis Agreements and the principles of the International Lunar Station represents an essential foundation for our effective contribution to shaping the future of lunar exploration, and contributes to strengthening Bahrain’s position as an international partner in this vital field.”
