The Arts Center of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, in cooperation with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Bahrain, will host an art exhibition entitled (Manifestations of the Arabic Letter), by the international Chinese calligrapher Hajj Nour al-Din Meiguangjiang, on Wednesday, November 5, at six in the evening.
The organization of the exhibition comes within the activities of the International Day of Islamic Art program organized by the Authority, to celebrate the aesthetics of Arabic craftsmanship and its innovative, innovative methods that reflect the depth of the Islamic cultural heritage.
In this exhibition, the calligrapher Haj Nour El-Din displays the summary of his artistic experience, which combines the spiritual depth of classical Arabic calligraphy with the contemporary plastic vision, presenting more than forty-five artistic works inspired by Qur’anic verses, which express the aesthetics of the Arabic letter and the visual connotations and spiritual meanings it carries.
In his works, the artist is distinguished by various techniques that combine circularity, elongation, interlocking, and composition, using his skill to highlight the flexibility of the Arabic letter through an innovative aesthetic Chinese style that gives the letter a new spirit that expresses the convergence of cultures.
The exhibition continues until Sunday, November 9, when it is open to visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Arts Center.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the calligrapher Hajj Nour El-Din will present a workshop entitled (Sinitic Calligraphy: An Introduction to the Aesthetics of the Arabic Letter in a Chinese Style), on November 6, 8 and 9, from 4 to 6 pm.
A parallel workshop entitled (The Beginning of Ink: An Introduction to the Art of Arabic Calligraphy) will also be held on Saturday, November 8, from 10 am to 12 noon.
Calligrapher Hajj Nour al-Din-Mei Guangjiang was born in Shandong Province, People’s Republic of China, and is a researcher specializing in historical Chinese Qur’an manuscripts. He obtained a degree in Arabic calligraphy in 1997 from the Arab Republic of Egypt. In 2000, he founded a branch to teach Arabic calligraphy at the University of Islamic Sciences in Zhengzhou, China.
Hajj Nour El-Din participated in many international exhibitions and museums, including the Aslan Museum in San Francisco, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Art Museum at Harvard University. The British Museum also acquired one of his paintings entitled (The Most Beautiful Names of God) for its permanent collection.
The artist received global appreciation for his role in promoting cultural dialogue and artistic exchange between the Arab and Asian worlds, and was nominated among the list of the 500 most influential Islamic figures globally by Georgetown University in America in cooperation with the Royal Center for Islamic Research and Studies (Principle) in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
