The exciting matches and surprises continued in the second edition of the Manama Open M25 Tennis Championship, which was organized by the Bahrain Tennis Federation, and its competitions are held on the courts of the Public Security Officers Club in Gudaibiya, where the round of 16 singles matches that took place yesterday witnessed the exit of the first and second seeds from the tournament, so that the top seeds continued to exit from the first rounds.
In the singles competitions, Ukrainian player Nikita Belozertsev was able to eliminate the first seed in the Russian tournament, Ilya Simakin, from the quarter-finals, defeating him with a score of 6/4 and 6/1.
In another match held in the Round of 16, the British player, Gillis Hussey, the second seed, left the tournament early, losing to the Spaniard, Ivan Morero, in two sets to none, with a score of 7/6 (5) and 6/1.
The Syrian player Hazem Nou also left the tournament after a great and distinguished performance against the German Maximilian Homberg, where the latter prevailed with difficulty and in two sets to one after a match that lasted for more than 3 hours, as the result of the match was 7/6(0), (5)6/7 and 6/4 in favor of Homberg.
In the remaining matches of the round of 16, Uzbek player Sergei Fomin defeated his Romanian rival, Vladislav Melnik, with a score of 6/1, 6/2. Last week’s defending champion, German Nino Ehrenschneider, continued his successful path to defend his title with a new victory over Irishman Kian Maguire, with a score of 6/3, 6/4, to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament. Last edition’s runner-up, Polish Pitskowski, also advanced to the same round by defeating German Calvin Muller, with a score of 6/3, 6/4. 6/1 and 6/1.
The third seed in the tournament, Dutchman Gilly Sales, advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Latvia’s Carles Ozulnes 7/6 (1) and 6/2, while the Russian player Timofey DeBerasco defeated the Indian Kanish Sureshkumar with a score of 7/6 (6) and 6/0 to join the finalists in the quarter-finals.
As part of the doubles tournament, the Spanish duo, Ivan Morero, and the Canadian Kesley Stevenson advanced to the semi-finals, defeating the Irish duo, Kian Maguire, and the Romanian, Vladislav Milinic, 6/1, 6/2. The duo, Jeffrey Hoso from Taipei, and the Latvian Karlis Ozulnis, qualified by defeating the Georgian duo, Bakshi, and Bulgarian Bumiter Nesterov, with a score of 6/4, 6/0.
The Russian duo Ilya Simakin and Pavel Verbin also qualified for the quarter-finals by defeating the German duo Richard D’Antonio and Calvin Muller with scores of 7/6(6), (6)6/7 and 10/6, while the British duo Gillis Hussey and the Dutchman Gilly Sells qualified after the opposing duo withdrew due to an injury to one of their players.
