Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, directed the Central Rapid Intervention Team to investigate the distress circulating on social media regarding the presence of a homeless family near Mansheyet Al-Bakry Hospital in Cairo Governorate.
Solidarity saves a homeless family in Cairo
The Central Rapid Intervention Team immediately went to the whereabouts of the family, where it turned out to be a woman called “D.A.”, aged 41 years, who has three children from her current husband: “F.H.”, 4 years old, “S.H.”, 1.5 years old, and “S.H,” 40 days old. She also has five other children from her deceased husband, whose ages range between 6 and 18 years old, including a son who suffers from a mental disability. They live with their married sister in Mansoura, and the woman’s current husband was working. On a daily basis, he injured his eye while working, and does not work now, and the family lives on assistance provided by passers-by on the street.
The rapid intervention team conducted a case study of the family in coordination with the Central Administration of Social Protection and the Directorate of Social Solidarity in Cairo to provide assistance to them. As a result, the mother and children were transferred to one of the social care homes temporarily until a housing unit was provided for her in coordination with one of the civil society associations.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity confirms that it continues to receive any complaints related to residents of social care homes or their exposure to any danger or abuse through the hotline of the unified government complaints system headed by the Council of Ministers at number 16528 and the Ministry’s hotline at number 16439, as well as the Sons of Egypt hotline at number 19828 designated to receive complaints from residents of social care homes.
