The Public Prosecution Attorney stated that the Public Prosecution had ordered the referral of an accused to trial for making media statements that included false information and news that were offensive to the Arab countries, accusing them of collusion and conspiracy against the peoples’ issues, and for calling on the peoples to resist and appear before the governments. The case has been set for November 26, 2025, before the Minor Criminal Court.
The Public Prosecution had received a report from the Anti-Cybercrime Department monitoring a meeting of the accused on one of the television channels and on some social media platforms in which he made statements that included false and offensive news about Arab countries, as mentioned above. The Public Prosecution took over the investigation into that incident, and reviewed the statements made by the accused and what was published of them, and began interrogating him in the presence of his lawyer, and ordered his provisional detention pending investigation.
In this regard, the Attorney General stressed that freedom of opinion and expression is guaranteed under the Constitution, provided that the unity of the people is not undermined or that causes division in a manner that does not violate the law, and that broadcasting false news, inciting propaganda, malicious rumors, and insulting states are sinful and punishable acts. Therefore, what the accused committed falls outside the scope of freedom of opinion and expression and exceeds it into a crime according to the Constitution and the law.
