Informed sources within the Wafd Party revealed that the former head of the party, Dr. Al-Sayyid Al-Badawi, does not intend to run again for the presidency of the party in the elections scheduled to be held early next January, confirming that Dr. Abdel-Sanad Yamama, the current head of the party, is considered to have the greatest chance of winning a new term.
Elections for the presidency of the Wafd Party
The sources explained to Cairo 24 that Hani Sarey El-Din is also seriously considering running for the presidency of the Wafd Party, as he is casting a ballot from the Abaza Front, the former president of the party, which includes a number of prominent leaders, including Mahmoud Abaza and Mounir Fakhri Abdel Nour, but he has not yet decided.
The sources indicated that Fouad Badrawi is preparing to run in the elections with the direct support of Al-Sayyid Al-Badawi, the historic head of the Wafd Party, who expressed his support for Badrawi’s return to the forefront, but he will not run himself.
The same sources confirmed that Dr. Abdul-Sanad Yamama seriously intends to run for a second term for party leadership again, noting that he confirmed this to some of those close to him.
Dr. Abdul-Sanad Yamamah indicated the possibility of his running again for the presidency of the party, before calling, in an official statement today, for the party’s elections to be held at the beginning of next January.
