Health: More than 3 million primary students were examined within the initiative for early detection of anemia, obesity and dwarfism

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the initiative comes within the framework of the state’s concern for the health and safety of students, as it aims to examine Egyptian and non-Egyptian students residing in Egypt at the primary stage, through 29 thousand public and private schools, throughout the academic year in all governorates of the Republic.

He added that the initiative’s services include conducting a medical survey and measuring weight, height, and hemoglobin levels in the blood to detect malnutrition diseases, while developing the necessary mechanisms to improve students’ health, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Insurance, said that cases discovered to be infected with any of the targeted diseases are referred to health insurance clinics to complete examinations and dispense treatment for free. The student is also given a “follow-up card” containing his personal data, to ensure periodic follow-up and reassurance of his health condition through health insurance clinics in all governorates.

Dr. Tamer Samir, coordinator of the presidential initiative, pointed out the participation of 2,000 medical teams trained in examination and diagnostic protocols and infection control standards, stressing that all procedures are taken while taking all precautionary and preventive measures, with the implementation of surveys throughout the year to avoid crowding. Health education teams are also educating students about precautionary measures to protect their health, with the two hotlines “106” and “105” allocated to answer citizens’ inquiries about the initiative.
