“Teacher Sarah made mathematics the closest subject to our hearts.” A phrase that the sixth-grade students at Al-Malikiyah Primary and Preparatory School for Girls gathered to say, in appreciation of their teacher, Ms. Sarah Youssef Harouna.
Among them, student Al-Reem Muhammad Al-Mutawa said: “We are no longer afraid of mathematics class. We have learned that numbers are stories and anecdotes related to aspects of life such as organizing a personal budget, calculating distances, and analyzing natural phenomena. We now not only acquire the information, but also apply it in our lives.”
As for the student, Ola Jaafar Saleh, she indicated that the teacher’s focus is on thinking about any life problem as a mathematical problem that requires a logical solution. She enjoyed many of her lessons, including the lesson on (the least common multiple), which turned into an exciting exploration journey, connected to reality and the interests that attract us, so the comprehension was greater.
In turn, the teacher explained that she is keen to make each session a stimulating and enjoyable educational experience, in which she relies on (learning with enthusiasm), and transforms the lesson into an integrated course that begins with discovery and exploration, through scientific explanation, and all the way to expansion and evaluation, and linking abstract concepts to the student’s sensory and functional reality, which makes mathematics a tool for understanding life, and consolidates the skills of critical thinking and logical reasoning.
This comes within the efforts of national cadres in government schools to improve the level of educational services, under the supervision and support of the Ministry of Education.
