The Egyptian Fatwa House received a question that read: Is it permissible to dedicate Friday to visiting graves? Is there any merit for visiting on this day?
The house said on its official website: It is stated in Islamic law that it is desirable to visit graves on some days that God Almighty has designated for greater preference. Because there is abundant reward and abundant giving in the visit, and the acceptance of supplications, like on Friday.
Is it permissible to dedicate Friday to visiting cemeteries?
And I continued: On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: Whoever visits the grave of his parents or one of them every Friday will be forgiven, and recorded as righteousness. Al-Tabarani included it in Al-Mu’jam Al-Awsat, and on the authority of Ibn Uyaynah, on the authority of Jaafar bin Muhammad, on the authority of His father said: Fatima, daughter of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, used to visit Hamza’s grave every Friday. Narrated by Abd al-Razzaq al-San’ani in al-Musannaf.
She explained: The scholar Ibn Abidin al-Hanafi said in his commentary, Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar 2/242, ed. The thought revolved around his saying: And about visiting graves: that is, there is nothing wrong with it, rather it is mourned… and it is visited every week, as in Selected Calamities, and he said in an explanation of the chapter on rituals: Except that the best is on Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Thursday. Muhammad bin Wasi’ said: The dead learn about their visitors on Friday and the day before it and the day after it, so it turns out that Friday is better.
