The heavy rains that fell on the Gaza Strip during the past hours caused the flooding of a large number of displacement camps, exacerbating the difficult humanitarian conditions experienced by hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who lost their homes as a result of the war.
Palestinian media said that rainwater infiltrated the fragile tents, drowning luggage and sleeping mattresses, forcing dozens of families to stay outdoors during the cold hours of the night. Water also flooded areas of the sandy lands on which the camps were set up, making movement within them almost impossible.
Lack of adequate water drainage infrastructure
The displaced suffer from a severe shortage of basic materials and the absence of adequate water drainage infrastructure, which increases fears of the spread of diseases, especially among children and the elderly.
Relief organizations confirmed that humanitarian needs escalate with every rain wave, while the ability to respond remains limited due to continued restrictions on the entry of aid.
