It seems that fate is writing similar chapters in the history of Al-Ahly Club with its new coaches. Weiler, Kohler, and the newcomer Yes Torop began their African journey outside the country, then quickly found themselves facing the great challenge in the Championship. History repeats itself.. Torop seeks to follow in the footsteps of Weiler and Kohler before the Super Final against Zamalek
In 2019, Swiss Rene Weiler began his career with Al-Ahly with an African match outside the team’s stadium against Kano Sport, before achieving his first title with the Red Giants at the expense of Zamalek in the 2019 Egyptian Super Championship by winning in Burj Al Arab with a score of 3-2.
Then, Marcel Kohler came to live almost the same scenario, as his first match with Al-Ahly in the African Champions League was away from home against the Tunisian Monastir Union, after which he returned and led the team to win its first title also at the expense of Zamalek in the Emirates Super Cup with a score of 2-0, confirming an ideal start to his career with the Red Castle.
Today, Danish Yes Torop finds himself facing an opportunity to repeat the same history, after he began his African career with Al-Ahly away from his home stadium against Aigle Noir of Burundi, and led Al-Ahmar to qualify for the 2025 Egyptian Super Cup final and set up a date with Zamalek next Sunday in the final match. He is now approaching his first real test locally in the Egyptian Super Final against traditional rivals Zamalek.
Al-Ahly fans are optimistic about this striking similarity, considering it a “good omen” for a new successful beginning, especially with the disciplined performance that the team showed in the first matches under Torop’s leadership.
