On Sunday, Israel announced that it had received the body of Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin from the Red Cross, which in turn received it from Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement: “We received from the Red Cross a coffin containing the body of Hadar Golden.”
The Israeli soldier was killed in 2014, and his body was held in detention for more than 11 years.
The Israeli Institute of Forensic Medicine will determine her identity, and if the body is identified as that of one of the detainees, there will be four hostage bodies left in Gaza.
The return of the bodies comes under the terms of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect in Gaza since October 10.
As the ceasefire began to be implemented, Hamas was holding 48 Israelis in Gaza, 20 alive and 28 dead, out of 251 detainees on the day of the October 7 attack.
